Roger Smith

Ann-Margret films in Sweden for
the 2nd time since 1968

"I want snow!"

That was one of the first things Ann-Margret Olsson Smith said upon arrival at Åre Östersund Airport. To most people she's known just as Ann-Margret.

Moviestar, artist, singer and dancer Ann-Margret arrived Sunday to film parts of a documentary about her. She lives in the U.S.A., where she is a much bigger name than in her old country. Even though she has spent practically her whole life in the U.S., she can still speak Swedish. She speaks quietly and is very nice.

She arrived at the airport with her husband Roger Smith, her manager, a make-up artist and the man responsible for the film, Swedish entrepreneur Kay Wiestål.

Ann-Margret is very excited to be back in the county of Jämtland, and especially her native village of Valsjöbyn, from where she moved to the U.S. as a 5 year old, with her mother Anna in 1946, to join her father Gustav, who was already in Chicago.

Since then, she has been back several times, the last time was in 2008, when she among other things attended the premiere of the musical "Ann-Margret & Me".

This will be the second time she films in the county, the first was in 1968, when she filmed parts of the TV special "The Ann-Margret Show" here.

Ann-Margret is still going strong, she has done around 60 films and 20 TV shows, and has several awards. Two Oscar nominations, a handful of Golden Globe awards, just to mention a few. Two years ago she was awarded an Emmy for her part in TV show "Law and order – Special victims unit".

As a singer she has recorded several albums, one is "The Cowboy & The Lady" in 1968, with Lee Hazlewood, who is well known to Swedes. The gate fold cover reveals two stars with almost no clothes.

"I assure you, I was wearing a swim suit", Ann-Margret says and laughs. In the picture, Hazlewood is wearing only a holster, and Ann-MArgret is hiding behind an umbrella. "It was his idea that we should undress", she says.

After four days of shooting in and around Valsjöbyn, she left Wednesday, to go back to Beverly Hills, in Los Angeles. At the end of October the film team will join her, to shoot the rest of the film in her home town.
