Ann-Margret lets her fingers do the gardening

A friend once joked that "Ann-Margret's idea of gardening is calling a florist". Considering the roses, gardenias and marigolds in bloom round the actress's seven-acre Beverly Hills hideaway, the florist is more likely to call her.

"I think rooms without flowers seem cold and unlived-in", says A-M, 37, who sees to it that her beds are replanted every couple of months to ensure year-round blossoms for her coffee and dressing tables. Among her favorites: white and pink azaleas and the aromatic stephanotis that thrives right outside her door. Watching things grow is "very calming", notes Ann-Margret - even if a full-time gardner does the dirty work.

"People are always teasing me about not being domestic", she admits. "I don't mind. The first time I went into a housewares department, it was like Disneyland to me".
